"HOW CAN YOU LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR IF YOU DO NOT KNOW YOUR NEIGHBOR?"
I’m Rev. Stephanie Lape, a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). I hold a Master of Arts degree in Transpersonal Psychology (the psychology of spiritual experience) from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology, and a Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary.
A long-time professor of comparative religions and former campus minister, I now serve as the pastor of Eden Lutheran Church in Riverside.
I live in Southern California with my high-school sweetheart husband, two wonderful children, and two fantastic Golden Retrievers. In addition to loving spirituality and the Enneagram, I enjoy traveling, watching movies, and spending time with animals and nature.

“Tables do that. They break down walls. They break down barriers. They show us our common humanity beyond and before labels because we all need to eat.”

Reflections on spirituality, religious studies, theology, and psychology -- from a Lutheran pastor/Enneagram instructor/comparative religions professor
"I will never forget how dynamic you were when I had the opportunity to hear you speak and teach! You have a gift teaching and speaking in a way that brings people listening in and holds their attention. I left the weekend retreat you spoke at wanting more…not because you didn’t give enough but because I couldn’t get enough.
Thank you for sharing your gifts with others.

Hearing God’s Call to Deeper Faith
Lutheran pastor and comparative religions teacher Stephanie Lape documents her lifelong spiritual journey. Beginning with a heritage of shame-based religion, she winds her way into, and often out of, five Christian denominations with ever increasing knowledge, trust, peace, and joy.
Drawn to every destination by God, in each place she leans in and learns, in each situation she receives deep benefit, and for each experience she retains some of its gifts. Beckoned is a travelogue of one who hears God's voice, and follows it, into the realm of spiritual community as well as deep into the inner world of the soul. It inspires the reader to ask: "How am I beckoned? What do I understand about God, myself, and the church? Am I willing to grow even deeper?"
"If loyalty to God and the body of Christ matters -- if we take the great commandments seriously -- this is an inspiring memoir of faith and faithfulness that will uplift the reader while moving her to reflect on what it means to find the right spiritual home and commit to its improvement. I recommend it with enthusiasm."

Reviews
"Pastor Stephanie Lape's desire for people to experience the welcome of Jesus Christ, and to be freed from all that would bring them shame, shines in the words of this book. Through her life experiences, she shares a growing faith, a love of intellectual rigor, an appreciation of Christian and other faith traditions, a deep care for others, and a hope that all might experience the immense love of God."
- BISHOP ANDY TAYLOR

"Stephanie Lape's spiritual journey brought tears to my eyes as I reflected on my youth steeped in guilt and shame, until God broke through and set me free with unconditional love. May her story inspire all readers to experience such renewal in their own lives."

“Spirituality is the intersection between the person and the divine, the place where psychology meets theology, where the personal meets the transcendent. This intersection is not difficult to understand, but it does require slowing down, acquiring some tools, and practicing techniques that have been passed down through the ages.
It is my great joy to assist people along their sacred journeys.”
